The health of our oceans and our planet is at a tipping point. In 2015, researchers estimated that 8 million metric tons of plastic ends up in the ocean every year. Those numbers have only grown since. By 2050, there may be more plastic than fish in the ocean by weight. We need your help to address this issue and protect our planet together – join the Electrify Magazine and Oceanic Global community for a local beach cleanup right here in New York! The cleanup will also include plantings with the Parks Department for those interested; a great hands-on opportunity to learn about environmental restoration and the importance of buffer coastal ecosystems.
The Rockaway / Fort Tilden Express Beach Ferry Beach Ferry Service operates from Pier 11 in Wall Street, Manhattan to Jacob Riis Park Beach in Rockaway, Queens. View the schedule here. Alternatively you can take the subway: take Rockaway Park bound A train to Beach 116th station (end of the line), then take bus Q22 to Riis Landing.
For a door-to-door option you can check out this van service running only $7 each way.
